Why Choose Canine Bed Bug Detection?

trust your local bed bug specialists badge

Human bed bug inspectors are trained, but they can still miss bed bugs during a visual bed bug check. This can happen when sneaky bed bugs (cimicidae) blend in with their surroundings, or the inspector’s vision is obscured by items in the home. Dogs, on the other hand, have an incredible sense of smell that allows them to detect bed bugs in a fraction of the time it would take a human. They can even sniff out bed bug eggs!

How Reliable are Bed Bug Sniffing Dogs?

Bed bug sniffing dogs are so good at their job that K9 bed bug inspections are 60% more accurate than humans, so you can feel confident that no bed bugs will go unnoticed. When matched with our guaranteed bed bug treatment services, you can feel confident your home will be bedbug-free in no time.

How to Prepare For K9 Bed Bug Detection

Things are hectic enough when you think you have bed bugs, which is why we created a simple checklist that tells you exactly what steps to take to prepare for your bed bug check.

Keep everything where it is: It may be tempting to move items out of an infested area or toss bedding and clothes, but it’s important that you don’t. This can spread bed bugs around your home, making it more difficult to eliminate them.

Don’t apply pesticides: Our bed bug-sniffing dogs have sensitive noses, and pesticides can interfere with their ability to detect bed bugs.

Make a clear path: We need easy access to the area, so you may have to reposition furniture or other large items that could get in the way.

Remove all dog and children's toys: These items can be distracting to our bed bug-sniffing dogs and should be removed from the inspection area (Note: only non-cloth toys should be removed, as cloth toys hold the scent of bed bugs)

Be present: In order for us to inspect your home, we need someone to let us inside. To avoid distractions to our K9s, we may ask that you vacate the residence briefly or wait in another area of the home.

If you still have questions, give us a call at 415-612-6645 to speak with a friendly customer service representative!

How Can I Tell if I Have Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs (cimex lectularius) are small, sneaky pests. They are often found behind baseboards, molding, headboards, bed frames, box springs, mattresses, duvet covers, and picture frames. While they can be tricky to find, here are the most common signs that you’re dealing with bed bugs:

  • Bloodstains that resemble rust spots on your sheets.
  • Shells and molted skins that bed bugs shed as they grow bigger. Bed bugs are oval-shaped and 1/4 inch long with brownish coloring.
  • Bites, which typically come in the form of red welts. In some cases, straight lines with multiple bites.
  • Discomfort while in bed or struggling to fall asleep due to an itchy feeling.

I called because of a bed bug concern and Jordan and his canine were very calm, professional and knowledgeable, which helped as I was very anxious about the situation. Thankfully there were no bugs but Jordan was very helpful and informed me about other pests it could be and put my worries at ease. Thank you so much! Highly recommend this company!

Really good experience! We didn’t have bed bugs, but if we did, the nice and professional demeanor of the technician AND his adorable dog would have really come in handy!
